Wow, I wouldn't have thought...

...that these things would taste so good together! Cooked peanuts, Swiss chard (or spinach?), feta and... what is this? Vinegar or wine? Onions? This is the meal of the month!

Miscellaneous

  • I got invited to visit Anton and Liezel in Australia! I want to save R1,000 per month so that by the time that I go I will be able to pay in advance instead of coming back with debt.
  • I entered a friend into a competition, and in doing so I won R1,500 myself! (Did not know that I stood to win money myself when I entered her into the competition.) So I can put away R1,000 towards my trip and give her R500. (She also wins another prize — we will find out more about that on Sunday.)
  • I heard today that I have to present three courses to Parliament. (The USB won the tender.) I have taught Parliament staff before, but this time I will be teaching Parliamentarians.
  • We had two power failures during the last course that I taught at the USB. You would think that such a thing would have a major impact on a hands-on software course, but mercifully, God gave me students with a very good attitude, and we covered all the required material, with a bit of help from a flipchart on a couple of ocasions.
  • Dexter and I made a tentative arrangement to visit Calitzdorp together next month (once he has OKd it with Neal).

    I am going batty

I have done some seriously odd things at work lately. The worst is, I don't remember doing them; but I am the only person who was capable of doing them, so it must be me. First, I wiped out our whole Sales database. It was restored from a backup, but of course the latest data was lost. Less than a week later I destroyed another database, but this time it is not recoverable. I can imagine how I did it the second time — there was a duplication of folders, and I destroyed one of the duplicates, thinking it was identical to the other, and it probably wasn't. I have been working pretty hard lately and Marius reckons I may just be tired, but I never did things like this when I was tired in the past.

PS — Note added some months later: The other database was also eventually recovered.

    Introduction to my blog

    holding a blue-tongued skink.
For some years now I have been wanting a Domino-based blog. (The main reason was because I wanted the control of being able to edit offline, anywhere.) I certainly didn't want to have to reinvent the wheel by developing my own database, but what was available back in ancient times — BlogSphere — was buggy at the time. Finally in 2006 I found this template (which, I understand, is probably already quite old, because I am a couple of Domino versions behind the rest of the civilised world), but I got the thing up and running without having to read too many instructions, so I am well on the way to being quite pleased.
